Project Components

  • Three project components are envisaged:

    1. Mountain agribusiness development
    2. Value chain capacity development
    3. Project management

    Mountain agribusiness development:

    Mountain agribusiness development will increase the number of commercially viable and sustainable mountain agribusinesses and farmer group enterprises (including community forestry and rangeland groups), and strengthen value chain linkages, through advisory services to develop business plans and agribusiness development grants to implement plans. Eligible groups and enterprises identified by the district social mobilization team during the promotion campaign will be assisted by the AEC to prepare business plans in collaboration with the district social mobilization team. The PMU will appoint a Grants Assessment Committee (GAC) to assess proposals. AEC will also improve forward and backward market linkages. It (in collaboration with DPC and district social mobilization team) will organize workshops and seminars on locally promising value chains and the business planning process to interested groups and stakeholders. Major roles of Regional Directorate and District Project Coordinators (DPCs) will be coordination and monitoring. DPCs will also conduct necessary trainings for the beneficiaries and other district level project activities. PMU will manage the capability development of AEC, district social mobilization team and DPCs staff and advisory support services through its specialist consultants

    Value chain capacity development

    Value chain capacity development will rehabilitate and strengthen selected MOAD district facilities to improve capacity to meet demand for improved crop and livestock genetics, post-harvest quality services, climate adaptive community forestry, rangeland and technology demonstrations as public-private partnerships. This Component includes:
    1. Ministry of Agricultural Development (MOAD) District Service Office rehabilitation
    2. MOAD Research and Development Station capacity upgrade
    3. Participatory technology demonstrations
    4. Climate change adaptation and value chain training
    Project management

    Project management will ensure the project is managed, monitored and evaluated effectively.
